3 low-intensity trails to explore in Santiago

For all those who want to go out and enjoy nature and fresh air, here we recommend 3 low-difficulty trails to do in the capital, which do not require much experience in the hills.

If it is costing you more than necessary to go out and do something outdoors, or you are looking for a familiar panorama to walk and get closer to nature that does not require so much time or physical effort; or you just want to do something simple to help you clear your head, we have the solution and it's right here in the capital.

Here we present ten options to get closer to the sclerophyllous forests, flora and fauna, on trails of low difficulty.

1. El Guayacán Trail in Mahuida Park

Ideal for those who want an easy and family tour. The beginning of this route is marked by the Mirador del Guayacán and the end by the radio antenna. Along the way there are many unmissable landmarks, such as the Guayacanes forest or the old mining tunnel of the place. In general, the slope is 20%, so the path is not so heavy.

The distance to travel is about 2.5 km.

2. Morro Las Papas Trail, in the San Carlos de Apoquindo Natural Park

This is an ideal route if you want to appreciate the flora and fauna. It is a place where you can see quail, partridges and snakes, among other animals. At this time the route may have some snow, which can be attractive, but make sure you are well equipped. It is 6.4 km round trip, which takes about two to three hours -depending on the pace- to be covered.

Remember that when entering the park you must register. Then, you have to follow all the signs that lead to Morro Las Papas. In general, the slope of the climb is very gentle, but there is a slightly more demanding point at kilometer 3.1, where the path changes to the west and ascends directly. This ascent is 200 meters and ends at the point where Alto Las Vizcachas separates from Morro Las Papas. Right in this place you can see Santiago from the heights.

3. Circuit Manquehuito

For those who want a nice panoramic view of Santiago and before doing a lighter path, the Manquehuito is a good option. Here you can see a sclerophyllous forest and also access the top of the hill. On the descent you can see the panoramic views of our capital and the entire valley of La Dehesa. The trail is generally considered easy, but there are some short parts that are steeper before the top. In general, it is an ideal panorama to do with the family and introduce children to trekking.

There are 4.5 kilometers that are covered in one to two hours and it is more advisable to do it in the spring because there is more vegetation. In winter the streams can have more water and you can see the snowy mountain range.
